Saudi Arabia Triathlon Camp

On February 13–15, 2020, Joe presented a triathlon camp for athletes in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. Organized and led by Meshary Al-Ayed, the camp attracted triathletes from throughout the region, averaging 25–30 athletes each day. Helping Joe with the camp were Trace Rogers and Barbara Ihrig from Growings Coaching in Dubai. 

A brief summary of the daily activities:

Day 1

Alternating swim and bike trainer sessions focused on skills

Classroom presentation: “What is fitness?”

Group dinner

Day 2

Bike hill skills: stand/sit and pedaling

Swim with video feedback for skills

Group breakfast

Classroom presentation: “Race week details”

Run skills: technique and drills for developing force

Group dinner with guests, speakers, and awards

Day 3

Race rehearsal: open-water swim, T1, bike, T2, run

Group breakfast

Classroom presentation: “How to use the Performance Management Chart”

Preparing for the start of an open water swim on a chilly morning.
Short clinic on running technique at the track.
Bounding drills to boost run power.
Cycling session working on pedaling skills.
Happy campers!
